Away to st Peters, dispite lots of injuries and players unavailable the Tyrchs presented a solid defence against the robust home side and with the score at 10-0 half time to us a try by No 8 D Ince + 5 points from the boot of H Williams, we looked as if we could get something from the game, the home back row had different ideas and some strong running and a few breaks went the way of the home side and we conceded a try in the last secs of the game to lose 17-10 a bonus point for the loss thou. This coming thursday we qare away to Aberdare in a re-arranged game 7:15pm KO.
27th Feb Home to Heol y Cyw
Lost 7-24 awaiting report
20th Feb Home to Tylerstown
Following a good win against Bute RFC last Friday evening, it was good to see the team prepared to throw the ball about, with the result of very good breaks by many of the back the were tries for David Ines (2) Gareth Eyres (2) and a interception by Darren Berry with 2 cons + a pen by Hywel Williams gave the Tyrch’s a well deserved win 32-29 against third placed Tylerstown, who just failed to gain enough second half points
The first try came from a fifty yard break by O/S half Huw Lock who passed inside to David Ince to score under the post a further break from inside our halfbackCriag Moss, saw Gareth Eyres run a try in the bottom corner, Tylerstown start to hold onto possession for this period, only to see an interception by Darren Berry who out paced the fullback to score, a further try by Ince and the boot of Hywel Williams saw a first half score of 27-10 as the away side scored a pen try just before half time.
The second half started in much the same way as the first half ended, with Tylerstown pressing hard inside the Tyrch territory, but a loss ball kicked on and the resulting chase saws Gareth Eyres score in the top corner, which was a crucial score in the end. The Tylerstown pack started to keep the ball tight and this resulted in a further pen try and a push over, a very tense 5 mins for the coaches at the end as Tylerstown scored a further unconverted try with about a couple on mins stoppage time on the clock. At the end, the score was just about justified and a good win and 5 points in the league.
Next week home to Heol y Cyw 2:30 at Parc y Dwrlyn.
30th Jan Away to Penarth
Despite the soggy conditions and playing against the wind and slope first half, the Tyrchs gave a good first half display against a pack that dominated in most phases of the game, we were 7 nil down in as many mins and then we counter attacked and scored a good try by G eyres which would have given new backs coach Yestyn Williams some insight into the way we can play, 7-5 then the home forwards started some rolling mauls and scored down the slope twice before halftime and the 19-5 score was just about right. A good talking to at half time was the making for a much better overall performance and we score a pen by Captain H williams and then a corner try from a break by scrum half D Francis saw the score 19-13 with us on top for most of the half, we dropped an attacking ball only to see the home wing run some 50m to score out wide for a final score of 25-13 which hgave Penarth a bonus point win to see them head the division.
23rd Jan Away to Llantwit Fardre
Our cup run along with our coach A Rosser are finished (gone to Caerphilly) and despite not being able to play any rugby for the last 5 weeks the Tyrchs played some attractive rugby during the first half and were 3-8 up at half time as a penalty and a chip and chase try for D Berry gave us a deserved lead. The second half though was a different story with the home side dominating the loose and saw them run in 3 tries against a further try by D Francis after a good break by Berry through the centre and the final whistle saw us out of the cup and a score of 23-13 to LLantwit. Next week we return to the league away to Penarth as we have some 5 games to catch up
26th Dec Away to Brecon.
December rugby at the club has seen us win all our games so with a large crowd following the Tyrchs to this away game, the boys after the first 15 mins started to play rugby, it looked as if they had just got of the bus as we were 6 points down after about ten min, then the pack started to maintain they own ball and give our backs the room to work with, there were times when the crowd thought we had scored but the referee decided against us on some 5 occasisons during the game. The home side lost a their hooker (yellow) about 6mins before the end of the first half which during his time out we scored a corner try by J Steel from a drive at a well taken lineout some 6 m out 6-8 h/t
Brecon started the second half in the same manner and the Tyrchs were under pressure with a further pen for holding on at a ruck 9-8. This did get the boys up and running again and consitant pressure on the home line brought a penalty try also a try for Captain H Williams from an interception about 20 m out for a further 7 points he also added a drop goal to his personnel tally of 15 points, dispite lots of pressure (Brecon had a further two yellows in the last 15mins) we could not get the bonus point try as we dropped or a forwarded pass stopped a further two or three possible scores final score 9-25. Next week we are home to Llandaff North and looking to start the year off with a further win.
12th Dec Home to Fairwater in the Swalec Plate
Dispite lossing away to Fairtwater away in the league some 6 weeks ago, the tyrchs played with confidence and scoring 6 tries duringf the game, they romped home 36-0 to get to the last 32 of the SWAL:EC Plate comp, firts half was a one way game with 3 tries being scored a pen try followed by D Jay and Craig Moss and converstaion by M Bean gave us a 19 -0 lead at half time Fairwater tried hard tp break down our defence but we stood firm and two tries by D berry and Chris Moss try with 2 cons by M Bean saw us romp home to an easy win.
5th Dec
Home to Llandaff, which waqs our first game since 24th Oct, the boys won 13-8 as I was not thee unable to report any more
24th Oct
Lost to Fairwater 25-13 thats all I want to say
17th Oct
Home to St Peters, who after they training session earlier in the week with national coach Warren Gatland started and continued playing fast and hard rugby, the Tyrchs hung on for most of the game and at half time only being 0-10 thought the away side may run out of steam, I can assure you they did not and they scored a further 3 tries against a nicely worked try by David Francis to make the final score 5-25. Having spoken to some supporters from the rocks they also informed me that this was by far their best preformance of the season, our home pack did well with David Rees, Richard Allen and Tim Mullin looking a good unit.
Next week we are away to Fairwater, a game to win based on they results sofar this season which with the break for autumn internationals coming up would make us 4-4 on the season not bad boys and we all know, we let at least 2 games go by a couple of points.
10th Oct
Away to Tylerstown and beaten 29-17 this is the only report I have, as awaiting info on the game.
3rd Oct
Home to Penarth, coaches looking forward to a good open game, which after twenty mins they were saying the plan is working, with a score line of 14-0 which was made up of a try out of our own half started by open side D Ince and finished by outside half H Williams, followed by 3 good pens from M Bean all seemed good at the Parc, unfortunate for the Tyrch’s, Penarth had a game plan also and they stopped our running game and we could not answer them, as we also saw some key players injured during the game which gave the visitors the edge.
At half time the score being 14-3 and we were still defending well.
The second half was nearly all Penarth with them pushing to our line every chance they had and with 2 tries being scored by them and a late conversation saw them home with the spoils 14-15.
So next week we travel to Tylorstown with a game plan to follow and come home with a win!
Sat 26th
Away to Heol y Cyw to a side we played last year and we knew it would be tough up front, which was the case, but our lighter but much more mobile side made up for the difference. 4 tries to 3 on the try count and a drop goal, pen and 2 con made up the winning score line of 20-30.
It was ding dong battle all through the first half with us being the force as soon as we released the ball to the sharp backs that we have and this lead to tries by both sides ealy on and the scoreline was changing every couple of mins. we obtained tries from Gareth Eyres, James Cashin, Rob Williams in the first half and bonus point try by very busy scrum half Craig Moss late in the second half saw us home to a fine away win, we picked up a further worrying injury to young number 8 Hywel Chatham who's conversation 2 and 1 pen & captain Hywel Williams drop goal made up our points.
In the second half we hardly moved from our own 22/goal line as the home pack tried to get over the white wash, but a very stought tackling and defence by the young Tyrchs saw us home and they only crossed once. the penalty count against us was very high and we need to look at why.!
Sept 19th
Home to Aberdare and to a much heavier side so I am told, the Tyrchs won 14-12 despite losing a couple of players during the game, mainly Phil Smith with a broken arm and second row Sion Daffyd knee trouble?, unable to give any further details as away on hols again on match day
12th Sept
Away to Llandaff North and after some 10 mins the home side had charged over for a converted try, look out we all thought, but the Tyrchs had a different slant on things and some great defensive work saw David Ince break away and kick ahead for a eventual penalty try award under the posts, dispite being up against a much heavier pack the ever youthfull Morgan Thomas kept plugging away and lifted everyone around him and a further couple of pens by young no 8 Hywel Chattham saw the Tyrchs start 10-13 up the second half, which was a fairly equal contest with a try a piece, ours by the very capable Craig Moss who replaced D Berry from his starting postition of scrum half on to the wing, Ceri Morgan replaced Moss and looks a very good find.
Lots of defensive work was done at close quarters and those of us who watched were very proud to see the Tyrchs bring home the rewards
5th Sept
First home game against Brecon and a losing start 11-13. unable to report more as away on hols.
