Pentyrch travelled to fellow strugglers Ynysown RFC and really never got going on what was a very narrow pitch. The home team took the lead through a penalty goal but Pentyrch full back Will Adams-Jones soon put the visitors in front with an excellent individual try. Will took a high ball near his own 22 and beat several defenders in running up the left wing to score under the posts. Huw Rees added the conversion. Unfortunately, this was the highlight of the visitor’s afternoon. Before the interval the hosts scored two tries, one of which was converted and a further penalty. Huw Rees added a penalty for Pentyrch to make the half time score 18-10.
The second half brought little joy to Pentyrch. Although the team battled well they conceded a penalty try soon after Huw Rees had slotted his second penalty. The final score was 25-13.
The youth XV game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The next scheduled league game on 18 February has been postponed due to opponents Cilfynydd RFC being involved in the WRU Bowl competition. This, alongside the 6 Nations, means the 1st XV will not play again until 4 March, when they visit Gwernyfed RFC.
The Youth XV has an away league fixture on 18 February against Rhiwbina RFC.
