  Pentyrch RFC v Cilfynydd RFC – 29 April 2017

Pentyrch hosted Cilfynydd for this penultimate game of the season. The visitors being another high flying team fighting for promotion. The hosts played with a strong wind behind them and took advantage of this in the first half. Within 5 minutes Nathan Williams crossed for a try following a slick three quarter move, only for the referee to questionably judge the final pass had gone forward. Despite this setback Pentyrch continued to press and soon afterwards, following a further phase of good open play, right wing Dylan Palmer turned up on the left wing to round the opposition defence and score under the posts. Alex Moore converted. Pentyrch just about had the better of possession and territory in the first half. The kicking out of hand was good, as was the ball handling. Despite the visitors crossing for an unconverted try Dylan Palmer scored his second try (unconverted) by rounding and out-pacing the defence to give the hosts a 12-5 interval lead.

The wind advantage was with Cilfynydd in the second half. This, together with their forwards getting on top, resulted in them scoring three further tries, one of which was converted. Pentyrch had much more defending to do in the second period and the team admirably stuck to this task. There continued to be the odd break out of defence by Pentyrch and one such move saw Alex Moore cross in the corner. He converted his own try with a great touchline kick to earn Pentyrch a precious losing bonus point. The final score being 19-24.
