Under 12's Win Blues Cup Plate Final

Many congratulations to the Under 12's for a very entertaining and impressive preformance to beat Rumney 28-10 in the Final yesterday at Cardiff Arms Park. It was a terrific squad effort as every player had game time.

Playing a brand of rugby that kept everyone on the edge of their seats, the young Pentyrch forwards battled hard against a much bigger Rumney pack at set piece and breakdown to provide the talented backs to run in 4 tries that were all converted by the 'mini magician' Sonny Greenmen. In addition to his 100% kicking record, Sonny's 'box of tricks performance' provided the distraction to allow both centres (Elijah Evans - 2 and Joe Webb - 1) and right winger Jacob Dublin to score the tries.

At no point were Pentyrch behind, having opened the scoring after 8 minutes with a sweeping movement to put Jacob Dublin in following consitent early pressure. Rumney then replied soon after, but what followed was 15 minutes that defined the Tyrch's team spirit and probably decided the result of the match.

Encamped in the 22 of Pentyrch, playing to their game plan, the Rumney forwards tried to pummle their opposition into submission; but time after time the tenacity of the whole of the Under 12's team turned them back on their heels. Without a plan B it seemed to take the wind out of their sails and, reaching half time at 7-5, Pentyrch had taken a very important moral victory.

At half time the coaches asked for the same effort and result from the second half, and soon into the next 25 minutes captain Charlie Brice ripped the ball in midfield and set Joe Webb on a 40 metre sprint to the line.

The pressure continued, and the Rumney hearts were well and truly broken when Elijah Evans benefitted from aggressive rucking and a slick movment of the ball along the back line to run 30 meters to score close to the posts. The rest of the teams reaction said it all!!

Serious congratulations must not just go the team, but the whole squad, for a really good performance. Also the Blues Cup Competition organisers need to be really complimented for providing the team with a wonderful experience.

Happy days! Season extension anybody?
