Gwernyfed RFC | 1st Team 13 - 5 Pentyrch RFC | 1st Team

Match Report
05 March 2017 / Team News

Pentyrch travelled to bottom of the table Gwernyfed RFC on what was a damp day and a sticky, muddy pitch. The home side had the better of the early exchanges but it was Pentyrch who opened the scoring after twenty minutes. A scrum on Gwernyfed’s five meter line saw play go to the blind side and Alex Moore scoring an unconverted try in the corner. By the interval the home side scored a converted try and a penalty goal to lead 10-5. Pentyrch played quite well in the first half. Their backs were much the better and several lineouts were stolen but the elusive last pass seemed to always let the side down.
If anything, Pentyrch were by far the most dominant side in the second half. They had about eighty per cent possession and territory but they were unable to breach the home defence. A late penalty goal by Gwernyfed even robbed the team of a losing bonus point. The final score was 13-5 to Gwernyfed.
The Youth XV narrowly lost 10-6 away to Gilfach Goch RFC.
Next Saturday, 11 March, the 1st XV play away at Llandaff North RFC whilst the Youth XV host Llanishen RFC in a league fixture. Both matches kick off at 2:30pm.
